Marriage: Harman Grothaus and Anna Maria Hemmers, Church of Rheda, Prussia Harman Grothaus and Anna Maria Hemmers were married at the Church of Rheda, Rheda Prussia in 1653. Footnotes: According to Pastor Schlegelmilch, an 85 year old retired pastor of the Lutheran Church, who does genealogical research for a hobby, Harman Grothaus and Anna Maria Hemmers were the parents of Herman Groethausen, who immigrated to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania about 1710 from Bielefeld, Ravensberg, Brandenburg, Prussia. There was discussion about Herman's brother which was not known if older or younger and as Herman was born in 1670, Johann must have been older, and there may have been other siblings in between Herman and Johann. As it was the custom to name the kids with the same name as parents and grandparents this leads to a bit of confusion. Anna Maria Hemmers was from Rheda (a beautiful little town with white and black Tudor half-timbered houses....Rheda being Protestant and Wiedenbruck being Catholic, also lovely with Tudor houses) she would then move to the home of her husband which must have been somewhere near or in Bielefeld.
